China is on the fast track to health reform with a number of key achievements. Since 2009, the country has:
- Incorporated nearly universal coverage of basic health insurance
- Expanded coverage of essential drugs
- Increased access to basic public health services
China Minister of Health Dr. Chen Zhu is at the heart of this transformation.
Minister Chen oversees health reform in China, building on his personal interest in a strong public health care system. He is a world-renowned hematologist, pioneering the first successful model in the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). His work on APL turned this once fatal form of cancer into a highly curable disease.
