The Raptor Center has a Northern Saw-whet Owl who’s been training to join their education staff and she needs a name!

Starting today you can click here to submit your name suggestion.  The Raptor Center will be taking submissions until September 4, 2012. After that, the Center will post the top name choices on their Facebook page and ask for your help in choosing the winner.

Every year, the Raptor Center rehabilitates more than 700 sick and injured raptors.
Some raptors – such as those who aren’t able to return safely to nature – end up joining the Center as educational birds and help train veterinary students and veterinarians from around the world.

The Center’s new Saw-whet Owl was found in Duluth and admitted to TRC’s clinic after she likely collided with a window.  As a result of her accident, she is blind in her right eye so it’s not a great idea to return her to nature.  An impressive note about her species: though she weighs only 92 grams (about the weight of a medium-sized egg), in nature she would catch small rodents and amphibians.
