Research Focus

Neuroscience expert Glenn Giesler and his team research pain by investigating pathways of neurons from the spinal cord to the brain. In the body, pain experienced from the neck downward is filtered through the spinal cord and transmitted through neurological pathways to the brain. The neurons in the spinal cord interact with the neurons in the brain to relay information about pain and itch. Specifically, the team is seeking to find a connection between these neural pathways and the pathways that control a person’s emotion and mood.
