At the University of Minnesota our providers understand the unique needs of patients within every one of Minnesota’s 86,000 square miles.

To provide the best possible patient care, health care providers need to understand the health care needs of rural communities don’t always mirror those of urban areas.

At the University of Minnesota our providers understand the unique needs of patients within every one of Minnesota’s 86,000 square miles. We’ve taken great care to ensure our health sciences students gain exposure to rural health care.

More than 600 graduates from our Rural Physician Associate Program currently practice in greater Minnesota and our Medical School’s Duluth campus specializes in training students interested in rural and Native American community medicine.

Our College of Pharmacy ensures all students serve a clinical rotation in a rural community and the School of Dentistry has established outreach sites throughout the state. These include a mobile dental clinic, in partnership with UCare, that travels across Minnesota to bring much needed dental services to communities battling oral health care access issues.

We’ve confronted a national shortage of food animal veterinarians with innovative programs such as VetFast, which gets graduates into areas of need faster, and our School of Nursing’s Doctor of Nurse Practice graduates plug health care needs across the state.

No matter where in Minnesota you find yourself, you can be confident that the University of Minnesota “M” won’t be hard to find.
